**A stronger take on the classic Americano.**
Before the Negroni, there was the Americano – Campari, sweet vermouth, and club soda. Evidently, this was not enough to quench the thirst of Count Camillo Negroni, who famously requested the aperitivo with gin instead of soda.
Joe Campanale, of Anfora in NYC, respects the delicate balance of the Negroni’s three very different yet astonishingly complementary ingredients with his Shakerato, but gives the cocktail a kick in the pants by taking it from stirred to aggressively shaken. The Shakerato, created for an event Anfora was doing with Punch Drink, appears in the glass icy cold and delightfully frothy, its girlish pink color belying the powerful contents within.
Punch refers to the castelvetrano olive garnish as a nod to the unexpected nature of the Italian Futurist movement, a comparison that can lend itself even further to the energetic quality of this drink and the surging, dynamic imagery characteristic of Italian Futurist artists.
